Moonshadow, or Shadow for short, came to Haven as a small puppy. He was adopted shortly after and as we do with all animals we require to neuter. When they brought him back for his neuter they mentioned he was thin. Well that was an understatement..Β their other dogs didn’t look like this so we knew something was wrong. They had said they were having trouble keeping weight on him. After much testing he was diagnosed with pancreatic insufficiency. We implemented a protocol which was basically a powder sprinkled on the food that had to soak for 15 minutes along with a specialized kibble, but the family who had adopted him decided they did not want to participate in the medical protocol and returned him to Haven formally.. we were deeply saddened by this as we try to find families who will stay by their pets no matter what. Even though Haven was paying for treatment, they didn’t feel they could handle the medical and needs..
Moonshadow responded incredibly to treatment much to our overwhelming joy and gratitude!!! He, in fact, was young enough and responded so well that he no longer needs the special diet nor the powder supplement. He fought with the heart of a lion through extreme emaciation . He is strong, healthy, incredibly active, and a joyful, versatile, wonderful dog..
But he has no family to call his own πππ.
He is with an incredible Foster Mom who provides him with daily adventures and walks as he is a very high energy dog and needs that type of exercise. He is an amazing pack dog and loves playing with other dogs. He is wonderful with children And has been around livestock even going out on trail rides with his foster mom and their horses.Β She has him beautifully off leash trained and he is always up for any adventure.
He’s not perfect π by any means, but he is a wonderful, happy active family dog who will thrive with more individualized attention. He is great trained but will require a sturdy crate And some good hard chew toys and enrichment toys such as Frozen Kongs etc.
But he’s black and white dog… And for some reason no one has given him a second look in a very long time π₯Ίππ
Shadow is coming up on 3 years old, neutered and fully vetted and up to date on all preventatives.
Please share Shadow’s story. We are praying and believing that his journey is not over in his final destination will be the loving family home that he has fought so hard to earn and deserves so badly
