ADORABLE AFFORDABLE ALERT!!
Emerson, my Emerson!! This spunky little 8-year-old dachshund mix is quite extraordinary but has special needs. That’s actually an understatement. He came to Haven with his back legs completely useless. After 18 months of intense rehabilitation, he regained use of them, but his background of trauma and poor nutrition caused him to develop pancreatitis. His pancreas is unusually sensitive and he requires a STRICT diet (and it is very expensive). His food is prescription ONLY. It has to be VERY controlled in the amount he is allowed to have. And there’s no cheating. He CANNOT have treats or human foods other than a few vegetables such as green beans or carrots. Something as simple as dropping a part of a hot dog on the ground where he could eat it could literally send him into a flare resulting in extended hospitalization or even death. While there have been some people interested in Emerson, we have to ensure that he would be protected and safe in a new environment. Regardless, he is a happy-go-lucky little man who adjusts well to all kinds of circumstances. Emerson is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccines and preventatives.
