A lot of late nights lately….a lot of tears 😭 But Tommy Bug and Good Dog are teaching me… I’d like to share some thoughts and encourage you to find what you CAN do and do it. To be a warrior.
I know most of y’all reading this are animal supporters… And so many people are… So many people genuinely love and care what happens to animals like Tommy and Good Dog.
Shelters and rescues are overflowing, funding is tight beyond belief. It’s overwhelming. There’s so much we can’t do. We feel helpless but we’re not. I get it I feel it every single day But ..we can be warriors.

So I do what I can.
We are a very small underfunded rescue.
But we do what we can.
And that’s the key … Find what you CAN do… And do it. It’s very easy when faced with the overwhelming numbers and facts surrounding animal rescue/neglect to see what you can’t do and to be so inundated by the need that we do nothing. When in reality we can probably do something… Be a warrior.
What can you do?
Can you donate $500? Can’t? That’s ok! Can you donate $100? If you can’t that’s ok…can you donate $50? $20? $10? $5? $2?
Can you pick up two boxes of cat litter to donate? If you can’t, that’s ok. Can you donate a big pack of paper/shop towels? Can’t? That’s ok! Can you donate 6 cans of dog food? Can’t? That’s ok. Can you donate 2 cans?
Do you have any gently used towels/linens that you can donate? Some dog leashes? A truckload of gravel? Spare lumber or construction material left over from a project?
Can you become a monthly supporter? Can you donate $50 a month? Can’t? That’s okay! Can you donate $20 a month? Can’t? That’s okay! Can you donate $10 a month?
Can you approach your place of employment/local business about a grant or donation? Can’t? That’s ok! Can you look online?
Can you adopt a rescue? Can’t? That’s ok! Can you foster a rescue? Can’t? That’s ok! Can you volunteer to transport for vet appointments or to work in adoption event? Can’t? That’s ok! Can you get a group together and volunteer for one day a month? Can’t? That’s okay! Can you do it twice a year? Once?
Can you pray for Haven regularly? Can you share with your friends and family and coworkers about Haven’s mission/efforts?
Don’t think that you can’t make a difference … because you CAN! Find what you can do. And then do it. And you’re a warrior! One of our Facebook posts, (requesting donations for hay) reached over 6,000 people!! If even half those reached had donated as little as $5 – or $2- we would be able to do so much more. (Not to mention breathe easier!) It raised a little over $100… Only about a 10th of what we needed to cover the hay budget.
I’ll tell you something… I REALLY dislike asking for donations. It’s humbling. It’s exhausting and stressful because I understand the stresses that everyone is under because we’re under the same ones. I want to be the one that gives not the one who always has to ask. It takes away a lot of time I could be spending with the animals or more rescues. But guess what? We don’t make that kind of money. I can’t pay for everything. But I can be humble, admit it and ask…. So for the purpose of helping abused and neglected animals I’m asking… what can you do?
