“God brings people into our lives at different times for different reasons. I think the same can be said for animals. The several past months had been extremely hard for my teen daughter, Anara. Most of the world experienced great loss through the pandemic, but I feel she has had more than her fair share. Over the course of 2021, 13 people vanished from her life. Many through Covid-19, but cancer, suicide, and other illnesses took their toll, too. 13 people she interacted with on at least a weekly basis. I watched my always peppy, bubbly girl withdraw into herself and dive into depression. I think our family would have done anything to get her smile back on a more permanent basis. Like most parents in a similar situation, we found a therapist that focused on grief, made sure her friends were with her often and spoiled her a little more than normal. Then one day my daughter met CJ Hale and a charming 4-footed friend from Haven 12:10 Animal Sanctuary. Anara and Zain (formerly Bob) fell in love instantly. You see, Zain had also experienced great loss in his short life. She needed him as he needed her. The first week after Zain joined our family, we saw a lot of Anara’s personality bounce back. I’ll admit, I was skeptical that the excitement over her new fur baby wouldn’t last. After having Zain in our life for several months now, I feel confident that adding Zain to our family is the best decision we could have made for our daughter. Having him in her life was the catalyst she needed on her path of mental and emotional well-being”
