Sooo… A few of y’all got a chance to meet little year old (almost) Moonshadow at PetSmart of Hopkinsville! It was a little bit touch and go with him so we haven’t wanted to post him until now… You can see the first day we got him how severe his malnutrition was. We are overjoyed to report that he has already gained almost 6 lbs!
Moonshadow has pancreatic insufficiency. His pancreas currently does not secrete enough enzymes to effectively absorb/digest and use food. By sprinkling enzyme powder on his food before every meal and letting it soak for 15 minutes we have been able to jump start this little guy and we think he’s going to be just fine now! He has a ways to go to gain enough weight where he can be safely neutered but he is going to be an absolutely lovely family dog! He will have to remain on the powder and on some vitamin B supplements for his lifetime but thankfully they’re not that expensive and are available through over the counter sources such as Amazon.
He is a happy, sweet, silly well-adjusted little pup and we are delighted that he is showing every sign of becoming a healthy little boy! We will be sharing his progress and we’re starting to look for his forever family! If you can donate a few dollars toward his care we would be grateful – we hadn’t planned on taking in another dog but as you can see stuff happens 🤣🤣
